It’s official – I am running the Foot Traffic Flat Half Marathon on 4th of July! This race will take place in Sauvie Island.
I’ve been wanting to run this race for quite some time, and originally wanted to run the full marathon before I found out I would be running the NYC Marathon! I’m very excited about it. I was holding off on officially signing up because it takes place on 4th of July, and wasn’t sure if I was spending the holiday with my boyfriend. He confirmed that he will most likely be working that morning so I went ahead and signed up!
I was interested in running this half because I heard this was a flattest half on the west coast. Here’s a description from their website:
The “Flat,” as we affectionately call it, has become a Fourth of July tradition around Portland. The course, as the name implies, is about the flattest and fastest half and full marathon on the West Coast.
But in addition to the fast times expected from completing this event, runners and walkers will be treated to the beautiful sights of Sauvie Island, including thousands of songbirds, majestic bald eagles, and picturesque farmland that most of the island residents subsist off of.
I’m also excited for the strawberry shortcake (yum!) and the strawberry running medal! Photo is from their the race’s Facebook Fan Page.
This will also be the first race I’m running completely on my own with no one and no one cheering me on, but that is totally fine! It will take place at 6:30 am and I’m pretty sure no one wants to cheer me on that early 🙂
Regardless – I’m very excited!
